Carrera Sunglasses

Since its earliest days, Carrera has been a brand made for the sports enthusiast — especially fans of auto racing. Founded in 1956 by Austrian entrepreneur Wilhelm Anger, the name derives from the brief but historically significant Carrera Panamericana auto race. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Wilhelm Anger developed unique eyewear designs that could withstand high-temperatures and harsh conditions without losing their luster, making them great options for racecar drivers.

By the 1970s, the brand had become synonymous with luxury and style in the world of sports. Partnering with various race car drivers and brands, Carrera was seen as one of the leading sponsors at dozens of major sporting events. This established Carrera as an iconic brand, particularly among racing fans.

In 1996, the Safilo Group bought out Carrera and relocated the company’s headquarters to Padova, Italy. Though it never lost touch with its roots in sports, the brand began to transition toward more stylish designs that appealed to people in the fashion world, too. Carrera glasses have been worn in various movies, and many of the biggest Hollywood celebrities have even been spotted wearing Carrera shades around town. Today, you can find Carrera men and women’s sunglasses for sale online and in department stores throughout North America, Asia, and Europe.

Carrera Sunglass Collections

As one can imagine, many of Carrera’s classic sunglasses rely on functional designs for racecar drivers. However, this does not mean that Carrera is just limited to sturdy, heat-resistant eyewear. In fact, it has a wide range of collections to meet various needs and styles.

The Porsche, Navigator, Aviator, and Glory collections all feature sunglasses that recall the styles and sentiments of the 1980s. While the rims vary between round and more quadrilateral shapes, they all have strong top bars and bridges. You can find lenses from these collections in a variety of colors — from canary yellow to rose gold.

Despite shifting toward more “fashionable” designs, many of Carrera’s eyewear collections still put emphasis on heightened functionality. For this reason, the Pilot, Champion, Safari, Americana, and Speedway collections all have a signature, broad bridge. The lens shapes tend to be round or oblong, but each offers unique stylizations, colors, and temple designs.

Finally, the Hyperfit is a one-of-a-kind Carrera collection that is specifically marketed to athletes. These unisex shades have large multi-colored lenses with flared edges, making them great for racecar drivers, snowboarders, and even horse jockeys. In short, Hyperfit is the ideal collection for anyone who wants to compete in sports — and look great while doing it.
